lifestyle newborn session – lilah

lifestyle newborn photography

Lifestyle newborn sessions are an incredible way to capture your sweet little ones. This is a new path for me and I am loving it so far. I wasn’t able to continue to do posed traditional newborn sessions and stopped doing them, but missed snuggling those sweet little babies. Lifestyle newborn sessions let me continue to photograph wee ones and I am so excited.

Lifestyle newborn sessions are more flexible and if you are a procrastinator, they work out in your favor since you can schedule these sessions 2-4 weeks after your baby is born as opposed to the typical “within 10 days” with traditional posed sessions.

These sessions also take place in your home and allow you to capture your nursery and other elements in your home that are special to you. Lifestyle sessions capture connections and life as it happens. These captured memories will be the most treasured and special to you and your family.

To summarize lifestyle newborn sessions are:

  • in your home
  • focus on family connection
  • does not include props or posing equipment
  • does include shots of just baby (usually in the crib, on the parents bed, bath time, etc.)
  • can include family pets and siblings

Sibling lifestyle session at 181 Ranch

lifestyle photography, lifestyle family photo
Lifestyle sessions are my new favorite sessions. If you don’t know about lifestyle sessions, they are about less posing and looking into the camera and more about the experience and connection between families. I love what naturally develops in this type of session. It is so much more organic and free and I feel it better captures relationships.

To me these images will be better cherished as they invoke feelings and memories of that moment in time.

Here is a few images from a recent session with some adorable sisters. They wore these pretty dresses at a wedding, but didn’t get any photos in the dresses. We decided to do some images outdoors at 181 Ranch in Bixby, OK. We had such a good time.

LuxeMod Portraits Studio Space

LuxeMod Portraits studio space is small and inviting with an entry way, shooting space and seating area, office area and a private restroom for clients. This space is quite smaller than my last space, but is perfect for portraits. Sometimes a large space can be too intimidating to clients. This one is cozy and allows you to relax πŸ™‚

I use a strobe with a very large PLM softbox and a Westcott Eyelighter to create the perfect beauty light for portraits. This helps create beautiful catch lights in the eyes as well as brighten shadows and reduce imperfections. In conjunction with professional retouching, your images will be the best you have ever had!!

My tiny furry intern wanted to be in the photo too πŸ˜‰ Although, if someone is around she doesn’t know, she is a scaredy cat lol.

Missing in Action

Well, I’ve been missing in action for quite a while now… Sorry about that! We traveled a bit and then moved to a new city and that put photography on hold for a while. For anyone else who has moved, you understand what happens. You start over finding new clients. That isn’t always easy when you don’t have a network of people in your new town.

I’ve kept busy though. I have a consignment booth at an antique store in town that keeps me going. Estate sales, swap meets, auctions, on and on. It’s fun to me though. I love estate sales and old stuff! I also like to take something old and give it new life. That is my creative streak that I inherited from my dad. He loved to paint and carve birds out of wood. I owe all of my creativity to him.

I’ve missed shooting though and plan to make more of an effort to get back to it! There are lots of people that need a great headshot. Maybe they just don’t know it yet πŸ˜‰

I hope to post a couple of videos soon. One of the new space and one showing what I can do for you. I also plan to do a few model calls in the near future to give someone a chance for a fab headshot for free! This will help me test the limitations of my new space (much smaller than my old one).

Keep checking back and be sure to like my Facebook page. LuxeMod Portraits.

Vintage piano bench makeover

I picked up this vintage piano bench off of a local Facebook group. I was a little wobbly and definitely past its prime, but I thought I could give it some new life. With a little DIY – I glued, filled, and sanded and then gave it a fresh coat of paint. I added a touch of distressing then added a cute stencil that would make this bench perfect for an entry way. I also think it would be so cute in a music room.

The stencil reads “Warmth and welcome to all who enter here.”

After I finished sealing the paint, I lined the inside of the bench with vintage music to add the finishing touch. Here are pictures of the transformation.
